Exotic climates beckon

Putting your mind at ease about this intriguing region

Flying to Dubai in under 8 hours, you can enjoy a winter holiday that has it all - sunshine, exotic locations, stunning beaches and the opportunity to discover the culture of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and beyond.

So, let’s sort the myths from the facts.

The average temperature during Oceana’s Dubai & Arabian Gulf season is 23 degrees, so a comfortable warmth.

Yes you can. Whilst drinking in public is not permitted, there is a bustling nightlife where alcohol is allowed in most of the hotels’ licensed bars and restaurants.

There’s so much more to the region. It’s historic and culturally rich with dramatic natural scenery – think mountains, nature treks, deep sea diving and even fjords!

In this region, "modesty in clothing" are the watch-words, so pack plenty of light and loose clothing that covers the tops of your arms and legs. Ladies… it's best to avoid wearing any tight fitting clothes or shorts that might attract unwelcome attention. You're free to wear swimming costumes on tourist beaches and at swimming pools, but you'll need to cover up when you're in other public places, and avoid clothing that may show off your underwear, such as singlet tops or anything transparent.

If you’re visiting a place of worship, you'll be asked to show respect by following a strict dress code. Men will need to wear a pair of full-length trousers and a top, which covers the shoulders. And ladies? A full-length skirt or loose fitting trousers, with a top that covers your shoulders, plus something to cover your head.

Some prescriptions and over the counter medicines (including pain killers such as Codeine as well as some complementary therapies purchased in the UK) are illegal in UAE. Foreign Office advice encourages you to declare them before you travel. To give additional support on how to do this we have included the handy links you'll need below:

Link to declare medication in UAE >

Link to guidelines for the decalring medication in UAE >

If you're in any doubt about your medication, we recommend you don't take them off the ship. But if you do declare medicine before entering the country and need to take it off the ship, please take the actual prescription with you and make sure your medicines are in their original packaging/bottle.

If you need to see the on-board medical team during your holiday, and are prescribed medication, check with the prescribing doctor whether or not it is prohibited to carry the medication prescribed ashore in UAE.

For travel to India, you’ll need to purchase your visa in advance. This can be done directly through the embassy or through P&O Cruises recommended agent, CIBT (ph 0207 620 6487), for an additional charge. India has recently made it possible to obtain an e-visa online for entry into three sea ports (Goa, Cochin, Mangalore), with Mumbai and Chennai to be added in the future. All information is based on British Citizen passport holders and is subject to change at any time.
